Job descrip­tion

Under the super­vi­sion of the Head of Dis­tri­b­u­tion, the Tech­ni­cal Man­ag­er is respon­si­ble for plan­ning, exe­cut­ing, and coor­di­nat­ing all tech­ni­cal aspects of the Ciné­ma sous les étoiles festival.

Funam­bules Médias is look­ing for an orga­nized, social­ly com­mit­ted indi­vid­ual with excel­lent tech­ni­cal skills to fill the posi­tion of Tech­ni­cal Man­ag­er. The select­ed can­di­date will ensure the smooth run­ning of out­door screen­ings dur­ing the 17th edi­tion of Ciné­ma sous les étoiles and over­see the tech­ni­cal require­ments of the orga­ni­za­tion through­out their mandate.

Respon­si­bil­i­ties

In the months pre­ced­ing the festival:

• Pre­pare logis­tics for the upcom­ing sum­mer by cre­at­ing the sched­ule for technicians
• Par­tic­i­pate in recruit­ing and train­ing technicians
• Plan the work sched­ules for the tech­ni­cal team
• Con­duct an inven­to­ry of tech­ni­cal equip­ment; repair or pur­chase equip­ment as needed
• Vis­it screen­ing sites and cre­ate lay­out plans
• Apply for occu­pan­cy per­mits from bor­ough authorities

Dur­ing the festival:

• Mon­i­tor sched­ules and super­vise the tech­ni­cal team and all tasks relat­ed to fes­ti­val production.
• Estab­lish effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tion chan­nels with the tech­ni­cal team to ensure effi­cient infor­ma­tion shar­ing (equip­ment issues, tech­ni­cal prob­lems, weath­er con­di­tions, etc.).
• Resolve tech­ni­cal issues dur­ing screen­ings and act as the pri­ma­ry tech­ni­cal con­tact on-site.
• Man­age equip­ment through­out the sum­mer (ensur­ing pro­jec­tion kits are com­plete, track­ing equip­ment dam­age, and coor­di­nat­ing replace­ments or purchases).
• Pre­pare video and sound pro­jec­tion equip­ment, includ­ing instal­la­tion and dismantling.
• Test film files before screenings.
• Pre­pare tech­ni­cal team call sheets.
• Coor­di­nate logis­tics and site instal­la­tions with screen­ing part­ners (bor­oughs and municipalities).

In addi­tion to fes­ti­val-relat­ed activ­i­ties, the Tech­ni­cal Man­ag­er may be respon­si­ble for coor­di­nat­ing tech­ni­cal aspects of pri­vate screenings.

After the festival:

• Par­tic­i­pate in fes­ti­val eval­u­a­tions and debrief­in­gs; update and enhance tech­ni­cal guides.
• Con­duct an inven­to­ry review of tech­ni­cal equipment.

Required Qual­i­fi­ca­tions

• Expe­ri­ence as a pro­jec­tion tech­ni­cian or tech­ni­cian for fes­ti­vals or pub­lic events
• Strong team­work skills, flex­i­bil­i­ty, and autonomy
• Excel­lent orga­ni­za­tion­al skills, thor­ough­ness, and professionalism
• Inter­est in social­ly and polit­i­cal­ly engaged doc­u­men­tary cinema
• Video pro­duc­tion knowledge
• Famil­iar­i­ty with Zone Fes­ti­val soft­ware (an asset)
• Valid dri­ver’s license

Employ­ment Conditions

• Start date: around mid-May
• Salary: Based on experience
• Sched­ule: 25 to 35 hours per week (depend­ing on the period).
• Con­tract length : around 4 months 
• Vari­able sched­ule, increased avail­abil­i­ty from mid-June to end of July. Flex­i­ble hours, includ­ing evenings and week­ends dur­ing the fes­ti­val. Must be avail­able on-call

Eli­gi­bil­i­ty

This posi­tion is fund­ed by Cana­da Sum­mer Jobs: the can­di­date must meet the fol­low­ing criteria:

• Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment;
• Be a Cana­di­an cit­i­zen, per­ma­nent res­i­dent, or des­ig­nat­ed refugee under the Immi­gra­tion and Refugee Pro­tec­tion Act for the dura­tion of employment;
• Have a valid Social Insur­ance Num­ber at the start of employ­ment and be legal­ly autho­rized to work in Canada.
