Orga­ni­za­tion’s Mandate

Funam­bules Médias works towards the estab­lish­ment of a fair and inclu­sive soci­ety through video pro­duc­tion, train­ing, and the dis­tri­b­u­tion of doc­u­men­tary films, by favor­ing the expres­sion of cit­i­zen’s voic­es and the devel­op­ment of crit­i­cal thinking.

Job Descrip­tion

As part of the Ciné­ma sous les étoiles project, Funam­bules Médias is look­ing for pro­jec­tion tech­ni­cians to con­tribute to the smooth run­ning of our out­door screen­ings for the 15th edi­tion from June 26th to August 31st, 2024.

Eli­gi­bil­i­ty

This posi­tion is fund­ed by one of the fol­low­ing orga­ni­za­tions, so the can­di­date must meet the require­ments of at least one of the two insti­tu­tions described below.

This posi­tion is fund­ed by Cana­da Sum­mer Jobs: the can­di­date must meet the fol­low­ing criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment;
  • Be a Cana­di­an cit­i­zen, per­ma­nent res­i­dent, or des­ig­nat­ed refugee under the Immi­gra­tion and Refugee Pro­tec­tion Act for the dura­tion of employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insur­ance Num­ber at the start of employ­ment and be legal­ly autho­rized to work in Canada.

This posi­tion is fund­ed by the Fonds Étu­di­ant FTQ: the can­di­date must meet the fol­low­ing criteria:

  • Be between 13 and 29 years old at the start of employment;
  • Be a res­i­dent of Que­bec (per­ma­nent res­i­dent or study visa);
  • Have com­plet­ed a min­i­mum of 20 hours of class­es per month in the ses­sion pre­ced­ing employ­ment in a pro­gram rec­og­nized by the Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion of Quebec;
  • Have a uni­ver­si­ty lev­el of education.

Respon­si­bil­i­ties

Under the super­vi­sion of the dif­fu­sion man­ag­er and the tech­ni­cal man­ag­er of the event, tech­ni­cians will pro­vide sup­port dur­ing screen­ings through the fol­low­ing tasks:

Before screen­ings:

  • Ensure main­te­nance and upkeep of equipment;
  • Ensure that pro­jec­tion mate­ri­als are prop­er­ly installed on the com­put­er (fea­ture films, short films, slides, and advertisements);
  • Pre­pare video and audio pro­jec­tion equipment.

Dur­ing screenings:

  • Assist in set­ting up, run­ning, and dis­man­tling pro­jec­tion equipment;
  • Con­duct image and sound tests before the screening;
  • Man­age the sound con­sole and micro­phones dur­ing discussions;
  • Be able to react in case of tech­ni­cal problems.

Tech­ni­cians may also be required to assist the pro­duc­tion team with any oth­er tasks relat­ed to the orga­ni­za­tion of the festival.

Skills Required

  • Excel­lent orga­ni­za­tion­al skills, rig­or, and professionalism;
  • Expe­ri­ence as a pro­jec­tion technician;
  • Mas­tery of the VLC mul­ti­me­dia play­er on a MacBook;
  • Inter­est in social and polit­i­cal doc­u­men­tary cinema;
  • Abil­i­ty to work in a team, flex­i­bil­i­ty, and autonomy;
  • Dri­ver’s license strong­ly recommended.

Employ­ment Conditions

  • Salary to be dis­cussed accord­ing to the pre­vail­ing salary scale;
  • Evening work (approx­i­mate­ly 6 pm to 1 am);
  • Screen­ings from June 26th to August 31st, 2024. 2 to 4 evenings per week;
  • Manda­to­ry and paid train­ing will take place in the sec­ond or third week of June;
  • Our offices and equip­ment are locat­ed at 2065 rue Parthenais.
