Job description
Under the supervision of the Head of Distribution, the Technical Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and coordinating all technical aspects of the Cinéma sous les étoiles festival.
Funambules Médias is looking for an organized, socially committed individual with excellent technical skills to fill the position of Technical Manager. The selected candidate will ensure the smooth running of outdoor screenings during the 17th edition of Cinéma sous les étoiles and oversee the technical requirements of the organization throughout their mandate.
Responsibilities
In the months preceding the festival:
- Prepare logistics for the upcoming summer by creating the schedule for technicians
- Participate in recruiting and training technicians
- Plan the work schedules for the technical team
- Conduct an inventory of technical equipment; repair or purchase equipment as needed
- Visit screening sites and create layout plans
- Apply for occupancy permits from borough authorities
During the festival:
- Monitor schedules and supervise the technical team and all tasks related to festival production.
- Establish effective communication channels with the technical team to ensure efficient information sharing (equipment issues, technical problems, weather conditions, etc.).
- Resolve technical issues during screenings and act as the primary technical contact on-site.
- Manage equipment throughout the summer (ensuring projection kits are complete, tracking equipment damage, and coordinating replacements or purchases).
- Prepare video and sound projection equipment, including installation and dismantling.
- Test film files before screenings.
- Prepare technical team call sheets.
- Coordinate logistics and site installations with screening partners (boroughs and municipalities).
In addition to festival-related activities, the Technical Manager may be responsible for coordinating technical aspects of private screenings.
After the festival:
- Participate in festival evaluations and debriefings; update and enhance technical guides.
- Conduct an inventory review of technical equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Experience as a projection technician or technician for festivals or public events
- Strong teamwork skills, flexibility, and autonomy
- Excellent organizational skills, thoroughness, and professionalism
- Interest in socially and politically engaged documentary cinema
- Video production knowledge
- Familiarity with Zone Festival software (an asset)
- Valid driver’s license
Employment Conditions
- Start date: around mid-May
- Salary: Based on experience
- Schedule: 25 to 35 hours per week (depending on the period).
- Contract length : around 4 months
- Variable schedule, increased availability from mid-June to end of July. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the festival. Must be available on-call
Eligibility
This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs: the candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or designated refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally authorized to work in Canada.
