Who are we?

Funam­bules Médias is a work coop­er­a­tive found­ed in Mon­tre­al in 2008 by doc­u­men­tary film­mak­ers. Active in video pro­duc­tion, train­ing and dis­tri­b­u­tion of doc­u­men­tary films, we work for the advent of a fair and inclu­sive soci­ety by pro­mot­ing the expres­sion of cit­i­zen voice and the devel­op­ment of crit­i­cal think­ing. In 2012, our relat­ed orga­ni­za­tion, Les pro­duc­tions Funam­bules Médias (Non-prof­it orga­ni­za­tion) was found­ed to over­see our pub­lic film pro­gram­ming component.

Funam­bules is a cre­ative, pro­fes­sion­al, expe­ri­enced team com­mit­ted to the val­ues ​​of coop­er­a­tion, social jus­tice and the envi­ron­ment. Our crit­i­cal spir­it and our col­lec­tive approach posi­tion us as an essen­tial part­ner in pro­duc­tion, dis­tri­b­u­tion and train­ing with orga­ni­za­tions work­ing for social change.

Our pro­duc­tion team’s man­date is to pro­duce videos for orga­ni­za­tions work­ing for the com­mu­ni­ty and social change. Our train­ing and medi­a­tion work­shops allow the devel­op­ment of crit­i­cal think­ing and reflec­tion around social and envi­ron­men­tal issues. Final­ly, our fes­ti­vals and doc­u­men­tary pro­grams pro­mote acces­si­bil­i­ty to the medi­um in addi­tion to con­tribut­ing to the reap­pro­pri­a­tion of pub­lic spaces and forg­ing links between neigh­bor­hood cit­i­zens who fuel pub­lic dis­cus­sion around wor­ry­ing social issues.

Since 2010, Le Ciné­ma sous les étoiles de Funam­bules Médias has offered a social and polit­i­cal doc­u­men­tary film pro­gram, free and acces­si­ble to all, which is held every sum­mer in the parks of Mon­tre­al and oth­er sur­round­ing munic­i­pal­i­ties. Reach­ing a large audi­ence of cinephiles and the unini­ti­at­ed and includ­ing a nation­al and inter­na­tion­al com­pe­ti­tion of short doc­u­men­taries, our fes­ti­val is now rec­og­nized both local­ly and inter­na­tion­al­ly. The sys­tem­at­ic dis­cus­sions after the screen­ings with the film­mak­ers or spe­cial­ists in the themes addressed con­tribute to the qual­i­ty of the pro­gram­ming and the rep­u­ta­tion of our activ­i­ties. For sev­er­al years now, we have col­lab­o­rat­ed with most of the fes­ti­vals and events in the doc­u­men­tary world.

In 2019, the Ciné Vert film fes­ti­val was found­ed in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Suco. Spe­cial­iz­ing in doc­u­men­tary film on the envi­ron­ment, it aims to sup­port the eco­log­i­cal tran­si­tion by mobi­liz­ing and engag­ing citizens.

Since 2022, Ciné­ma à la carte has been cre­at­ed, mak­ing it pos­si­ble to make avail­able and facil­i­tate the dis­tri­b­u­tion of doc­u­men­taries from our pre­vi­ous pro­gram­ming in Que­bec the­aters, film clubs, com­mu­ni­ty groups and the aca­d­e­m­ic sec­tor. Offer­ing pro­gram­mers and teach­ers the pos­si­bil­i­ty of pre­sent­ing films on the themes of their choice, our cat­a­log is also enhanced by our dis­tri­b­u­tion ser­vice offer.

Indeed, as spe­cial­ists in trav­el­ing screen­ings, we offer exte­ri­or and inte­ri­or pro­jec­tion ser­vices. Our exper­tise in events also allows us to improve the offer by tak­ing charge of the ani­ma­tion, the man­age­ment of the guests as well as the com­mu­ni­ca­tions for the orga­ni­za­tion of evening screenings.

Final­ly, since 2020, Funam­bules Médias has been under­go­ing a major dig­i­tal shift aimed at trans­form­ing its inter­nal and exter­nal com­mu­ni­ca­tions infra­struc­tures, in par­tic­u­lar by adopt­ing free cloud com­put­ing tools and col­lab­o­rat­ing with the social econ­o­my com­mu­ni­ty to pool its resources with orga­ni­za­tions of the sector.
