Funambules Médias is a work cooperative founded in Montreal in 2008 by documentary filmmakers. Active in video production, training and distribution of documentary films, we work for the advent of a fair and inclusive society by promoting the expression of citizen voice and the development of critical thinking. In 2012, our related organization, Les productions Funambules Médias (Non-profit organization) was founded to oversee our public film programming component.
Funambules is a creative, professional, experienced team committed to the values of cooperation, social justice and the environment. Our critical spirit and our collective approach position us as an essential partner in production, distribution and training with organizations working for social change.
Our production team’s mandate is to produce videos for organizations working for the community and social change. Our training and mediation workshops allow the development of critical thinking and reflection around social and environmental issues. Finally, our festivals and documentary programs promote accessibility to the medium in addition to contributing to the reappropriation of public spaces and forging links between neighborhood citizens who fuel public discussion around worrying social issues.
Since 2010, Le Cinéma sous les étoiles de Funambules Médias has offered a social and political documentary film program, free and accessible to all, which is held every summer in the parks of Montreal and other surrounding municipalities. Reaching a large audience of cinephiles and the uninitiated and including a national and international competition of short documentaries, our festival is now recognized both locally and internationally. The systematic discussions after the screenings with the filmmakers or specialists in the themes addressed contribute to the quality of the programming and the reputation of our activities. For several years now, we have collaborated with most of the festivals and events in the documentary world.
In 2019, the Ciné Vert film festival was founded in collaboration with Suco. Specializing in documentary film on the environment, it aims to support the ecological transition by mobilizing and engaging citizens.
Since 2022, Cinéma à la carte has been created, making it possible to make available and facilitate the distribution of documentaries from our previous programming in Quebec theaters, film clubs, community groups and the academic sector. Offering programmers and teachers the possibility of presenting films on the themes of their choice, our catalog is also enhanced by our distribution service offer.
Indeed, as specialists in traveling screenings, we offer exterior and interior projection services. Our expertise in events also allows us to improve the offer by taking charge of the animation, the management of the guests as well as the communications for the organization of evening screenings.
Finally, since 2020, Funambules Médias has been undergoing a major digital shift aimed at transforming its internal and external communications infrastructures, in particular by adopting free cloud computing tools and collaborating with the social economy community to pool its resources with organizations of the sector.
